Limits

  • Every page is redrawn as a picture. Text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links and form fields are gone.
  • The file can get larger than the original if it was mostly text. Lower the DPI to shrink it.
  • Black and white uses one fixed threshold for the whole page: a faint or unevenly lit scan may need a different value.
  • A page whose image would exceed about 16 megapixels is drawn below the DPI you asked for.
  • Password-protected PDFs are refused (there is no password prompt yet); remove the password first.
