Limits

  • Literal mode is the default. Regex mode uses JavaScript (ECMAScript) syntax, runs in a separate worker and is stopped after 2 seconds (possible catastrophic backtracking).
  • Regex limits: pattern 1,000 characters, text 1 MB, 200,000 replacements.
  • Whole-word matching (literal mode only) treats letters, digits, combining marks and underscore as word characters; in regex mode use \b yourself.
