Limits

  • This is NOT a background remover. It finds pixels that are close to the background colour, starting from the edges of the picture, and paints them. It only works when the background is plain and evenly lit. Cluttered, patterned, gradient or shadowy backgrounds will come out patchy or only partly replaced, and the result says when the edges do not look plain.
  • It can nibble fine hair, light clothing that matches the wall and soft shadows next to the person. Check the before/after picture closely, and tune tolerance, the grow/shrink setting and the soft edge. Large changes of light across the wall are not handled.
  • A model-based background remover is not available here yet; it is planned for AI Lab. Until then, retake the photo against a plain wall if this result is not clean enough.
  • Areas not connected to the edge of the picture (for example a gap between an arm and the body) are kept as they are, even if they are the same colour as the wall.
  • The mask is worked out on a copy of at most 1600 px and then applied to the full-size picture. The output is a new JPEG or PNG with no metadata, and a side-by-side before/after picture is saved next to it.
  • Passport and visa rules vary: check your form’s current rules, because this tool cannot know whether a result will be accepted.
  • Everything runs on your device; images are never uploaded.
