Limits
- Close languages written in one script are the weak spot: Danish and Norwegian, Russian and Bulgarian, Hindi and Marathi can be mistaken for each other, especially in short text.
- Built-in letter-pattern profiles cover 26 languages in Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic and Devanagari scripts. Greek, Hebrew, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and the main Indian scripts are recognised from the script alone.
- Text under about 20 letters is flagged unreliable; under about 60 is a hint only. Names, code, numbers and a mix of languages all lower accuracy.
- Romanised text (Hindi typed in Latin letters, for example) is not detected as that language.
- Measured on 115 held-out snippets written for this tool: 112 correct (97%). Real text is messier than those snippets, so expect lower on your own.
